Field apps · Internal tools · Dashboards · Data pipelines · AI strategy
Custom software for organizations that don't have a developer.
Field apps, internal tools, dashboards, and data pipelines, built for the work that happens where the road ends. If your process runs on a paper form, a spreadsheet nobody trusts, or a portal somebody checks by hand every morning, that's the kind of thing I replace. I also advise and train teams on AI: where it's worth using, and where it isn't.
Run by Kai Myers: environmental scientist, NASA-funded glacier researcher, and former remediation-site consultant.
What I do
Software for the gap where there isn't an off-the-shelf answer.
Most of what I get asked for falls into one of these. If yours doesn't, say so anyway. Interesting problems often don't.
Field data apps
Offline-first capture for crews working past the edge of service. Photo evidence, guided forms, ordered sync, and a report at the end of the shift.
Internal tools & dashboards
The thing your team currently does in a shared spreadsheet, rebuilt so two people can use it at once and nobody breaks a formula.
Data pipelines & aggregation
Pulling scattered sources (portals, agencies, instruments, exports) into one structured, current, queryable place.
AI strategy and advising
A plain answer on where AI is worth using in your operation: what to buy, what to build, and what to leave alone. Written down, with what it costs to keep running.
AI where it earns its place
When a model is the right tool, it runs on guardrails: a defined scope, fixed source material, and output you can check.
Team training
Primers and hands-on workshops that get your team using AI on their own work, without the hype and without buying anything they don't need.

Lab Data Review Tool
An Alaska environmental remediation contractor reviewed every weekly batch of lab results by hand: summary tables against ADEC cleanup levels, QC checks, and the ADEC Laboratory Data Review Checklist. I built a deterministic desktop tool that does it from the lab's electronic data deliverable using the firm's own review rules. The firm says it already saves them three to five hours on every batch.

Dirt Burner Monitor
An Alaska soil remediation contractor ran its dirt burner, a thermal plant that cleans contaminated soil, on a paper Daily Burn log. I replaced it with a native iOS app: guided hourly capture, three-zone alerting, photo evidence, and a PDF for every shift.

AK RFP Hub
Alaska's public bids are scattered across federal systems, a state notice feed, and dozens of borough, utility, school district, and tribal sites. AK RFP Hub reads all of them every morning and matches each one to what a contractor actually does.

Dixon Glacier Model Workbench
The Alaska Energy Authority is pursuing a diversion that depends on Dixon Glacier's future meltwater. I built the model that projects it, then built a workbench that shows its data, its assumptions, and its uncertainty rather than just its answer.

Why me
I've done the work the software is for.
Before I wrote field apps, I ran remedial investigations at remote contaminated sites, collected surface water for a state agency, and patrolled avalanche terrain with explosives. I know what a form looks like when your hands are cold and there's no signal, and I know which corners a field crew will actually cut.

The paper form, the spreadsheet, the portal somebody checks by hand. Describe it and I'll tell you straight whether it's worth building, what it would take, and when it wouldn't be worth your money.
